Now Departing

Now Departing is a mobile app for both Android and iOS(iPhone) that communicates with the UK Live Departure Board Web Service (LDBWS) provided by National Rail Enquiries to look up specific departures from a selected station.

This is the same information that is displayed on the departure boards at various UK railway stations, but now you can access it from your mobile device.

DaysLeft

DaysLeft is a mobile application for keeping track of your Schengen allowance if you are affected by the 90/180 day rule for visa-free travel.

It was originally created to help me track my Schengen visits to make sure I stayed within the 90/180 rule. The rule seems simple but if you travel a lot within the Schengen area then working how many days of your allowance you have left of your 90 days becomes , let say a bit tedious.

The summary of the rules are:

  • You can travel to, and stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days in a 180 day period.
  • Your passport needs to be less than 10 years old any time you enter a Schengen area and when you leave it needs to be valid for at least 3 months after.

But, it is a little more complex than that as the 180 day period is always counting from the day you next enter a Schengen area and goes back 180 days from that date. So the number of days available of your 90 day allowance can also change with each day.

And although you may be able to travel into a Schengen area with 1 day left on your passport, that won’t work in practice as you need at least 3 months remaining the day you leave.

The app has evolved, through necessity and from some great feedback from my user base, which I am extremely grateful for, thank you!, and now it can:

  • keep track of all Schengen visits
  • show allowance and usage for future trips
  • give indication of current passport status
  • track any travel insurance you may have
  • show a summary of the current situation

To see for yourselves just install a copy on your Android or iOS phone and record the trips you have taken.
